Firework Safety & Age Policy

Your safety matters to us. Please read this guidance before buying, collecting and using fireworks. Clacton Fireworks is a responsible retailer and operates a Challenge 25 policy.

Proof of age on collection

It is illegal to sell fireworks to anyone under 18. When you collect your reservation you must show valid photo ID to prove you are 18 or over. We accept:

  • A current UK or EU photocard driving licence
  • A valid passport
  • A PASS-accredited proof-of-age card (e.g. CitizenCard) showing the PASS hologram

If you cannot provide acceptable ID we will not be able to hand over your fireworks, and payment is only taken in store at the point of collection.

The Firework Code

  • Only buy fireworks marked CE / UKCA compliant.
  • Keep fireworks in a closed box and take them out one at a time.
  • Read and follow the instructions on each firework using a torch — never a naked flame.
  • Light fireworks at arm's length using a suitable taper and stand well back.
  • Never go back to a firework that has been lit — even if it hasn't gone off.
  • Never put fireworks in your pocket or throw them.
  • Keep a bucket of water nearby and direct rockets and fireworks away from spectators.
  • Keep pets indoors and light sparklers one at a time, wearing gloves.

Official safety advice

We strongly recommend reading the official guidance from these authorities:

You must be 18 or over to purchase fireworks. Challenge 25 applies at all times.

Fireworks for every occasion

The same safety guidance applies whatever you are celebrating. Whether you are planning for Bonfire Night, New Year's Eve, Diwali or Chinese New Year, please follow the Firework Code every time and check the current rules on when fireworks may be used.
