Fireworks for a New Year countdown
Many people build their New Year's Eve display around a short, well-timed finale for midnight. Options that work well include:
- Barrages — a longer-running cake can carry your countdown, while a fast-firing barrage makes an effective midnight finale.
- Rockets — quick to fire and easy to time to the final seconds of the year.
- Selection boxes — a straightforward way to add variety earlier in the evening.
Timing and considerations
Firework use is later on New Year's Eve than on most days, but there are still legal cut-off times, so please check the current rules before lighting anything. Cold, damp winter weather can affect how fireworks perform, so keep them dry and store them according to the instructions on the packaging. Our Firework Safety page covers safe set-up and lighting.
Age-restricted product
Fireworks are age-restricted. We operate a Challenge 25 policy, so if you look under 25 you will be asked for valid photo ID when you collect. See our Age Restricted Sales policy for accepted forms of identification.
Frequently Asked Questions
The permitted cut-off on New Year's Eve is later than on most days of the year, but a legal limit still applies. Please check the current times on GOV.UK before your display.
A short, reliable finale is usually easier to time than a long display. Set up in advance, have your fireworks ready in firing order, and never return to a firework that has not gone off.
